The property situated in Chelsea was totally gutted leaving only the facade, to make way for a high specification refurbishment with triple height void at its core. Given the tight site, the scheme relied on a double flight glass stairs and glass bridges to connect the various pods without loss of the sense of space and light.
The laminated glass risers in the stairs act compositely as part of a 'stringer truss' to span from floor to floor supporting the glass treads and balustrade, thus allowing the steel elements to be minimal.
Large glass bridges use the same structural principle criss-crossing the large void up the house.
